Bernardo Lanzetti: "I SING THE VOICE IMPOSSIBLE"

"I SING THE VOICE IMPOSSIBLE"

The voice not only as "Subject" and "Object" but also as a “Controller".

There are those who define the voice as the most versatile as well as portable musical instrument, others identify it as the "original signature" of every human being, still others celebrate it as the noble carrier of Melos but also of Pathos.

Certainly, in the music field, the voice, the only instrument capable of coupling notes to the syllables of words, is an extraordinary bearer of information and emotions.

Bernardo Lanzetti, after the various experiences in the '70s with groups such as Acqua Fragile and PFM, since the' 80s, has also dedicated himself to the study of vocals interfaced with electronic "devices" capable of reading the harmonic content of the human voice as well as its volume, its brilliance and the amount of emitted breath.

Initially, this was possible because the Australian company "Fairlight", in the 80/90 top manufacturer of computerized instruments, had entrusted him with one of the four prototypes of the Voicetracker. He was told the other three devices were given to Peter Gabriel, Michael Jackson and Kate Bush.

During these studies, Bernardo also invented a glove, equipped with sensors, called "Glovox", which, placed to the throat, allows to capture the vibrations of the vocal cords while singing. These monophonic signals can be processed through various effects or can be digitized to command and control electronic instruments. Put simply, with a proper interface, one can use his voice instead of his finger to play a synthesizer!

The Glovox is one of the features of the album "I Sing The Voice Impossible”, originally published in 1998.

The title is in assonance with that of a poem (1867) by the American poet Walt Whitman, all tracks, except one, are by Bernardo Lanzetti while the arrangements and co-production by Dario Mazzoli.

Other peculiarities of the CD are the compositions developed over even / odd times as well as the cover symbolizes with the imprint of the 5 fingers of one hand, enclosed in a square frame and therefore of 4 sides and 4 equal angles.

The album also hosts a remake of "Come Again", a composition from the late 16th century by the English troubadour John Dowland. Curious is the fact that Sting resumed the same song, eight years later.

"I Sing The Voice Impossible" is re-released these days on all digital platforms:
